Today, I would like to find out what kind of plans are underway, the location of the company and water villas, and when they are scheduled to open^^
Water villas on an uninhabited island in Okinawa
Soneva (CEO Sonu Shivdasani), which operates luxury resorts in the Maldives and Thailand, is planning to develop a resort for the wealthy on Gushikawa Island, an uninhabited island between Izena Island and Iheya Island in Okinawa Prefecture.
According to the plan explained to the locals, it will have 129 villa-style rooms on land and water, with a capacity of about 500 guests. About 500 people are expected to be employed.
There was also an explanation that the facility was operated with the concept of coexistence with nature in consideration of the global environment, and that many local ingredients were used in the meals.
Where is Gushikawa Island?
Gushikawa Island is an uninhabited island located between Iheya Island and Izena Island.
It is a small island in the northwest of Okinawa Island, which is said to be a resort area located in the south of Japan.
Okinawa is said to be one of the world’s leading islands with coral reefs, and is a popular island in Japan with about 10 million tourists visiting annually.
It is said that the construction of an airport on Iheya Island is being considered, and the construction of water villas will make airport development more realistic.
What kind of company is Soneva?
Soneva, formerly Soneva Resorts and Residences, is a resort chain founded in Maldives in 1995 by Sonu Shivdasani and his wife Eva Malmström Shivdasani.
They have opened resort hotels called “Soneva Fushi” and “Sonevajani” in Maldives, and “Soneva Kiri” in Thailand.
As of December 2022, plans are underway to build water villas in three locations, two in the Maldives and one in Okinawa.

How much about the accommodation charge?
When I searched for the price only by date without specifying the room or plan, it was displayed as “810,000 yen (11,700 USD)”.
That’s how high it is…
The lowest price I saw was about 400,000 yen, but I think there are many people who say it’s more than a month’s salary.
It’s definitely for the rich.
When will Soneva Okinawa open?
It is said that the plan aims to open in 2029!
As the first phase, 23 water villas and 106 low-rise guest rooms are planned on the land section overlooking the sandy beach!
